Inspired Life

Heather Creekmore is known for being bad at decorating cakes—at least from her TV appearance on Nailed It! But she is no failure when it comes to real life. We had a conversation about how she turned body image into an idol and how she broke that down through the power of understanding who God created her to be.

Heather Creekmore is a homeschool mom of 4 who loves Jesus, has written two books, blogs about all things body image and comparison, and speaks to these issues on her own podcast! She's experienced in all types of broadcast media. Some people know her from her appearance on the Netflix show Nailed It! (Season 1, Episode 1).

She is passionate about encouraging women to overcome their body image and comparison struggles. Heather believes that a lot of the self-focused solutions proposed by culture don’t align with the Bible. Thus, she tackles this topic from a Gospel-centered perspective, providing answers that are grounded and supported with scriptural truth. Her heart is to encourage women, and you’ll find Heather shares her story with lots of authenticity and relatable humor.

Heather writes and speaks hope to women inspiring them to stop comparing and start living. She’s author of two books (see the resources below) and has been featured on Fox News, Huff Post, Morning Dose, Church Leaders, For Every Mom, along with dozens of other shows and podcasts. Heather and her fighter-pilot-turned-pastor husband, Eric have four children and live in Austin, Texas.

Life, Repurposed

Heather said, "I have CDD—Chronic Disappointment Disorder." She was so real about her perfectionistic tendencies and expectations but humble about her transformation. God has been at work on her. We talked about where to put our hope. She said we might say this is a new year, and I'm going to lose 30 pounds. I'm going to get fit. But, "if we put our hope in all that, we can still be disappointed."

This is so much about our motive and where we place our hope. Heather said, "It's good to improve your marriage, great to become a better mom. There's nothing wrong with those things. But when we put our hope in them, oh, ho often we're disappointed. But our hope is in Christ alone. He will never disappoint."

What a fantastic message she left with listeners!

"There is great hope, and it's in Jesus. It's not in fitting into a certain size jeans or in getting the home of your dreams. It's in Christ alone." —Heather Creekmore

Compared to Who?: A Proven Path to Improve Your Body Image

Have you tried the diets, exercise programs, and self-help rituals, but still feel stuck when it comes to your body image? Do you sometimes feel frustrated because you compared yourself to others and fall short? Are you tired of Christian books that tell you ''It's what's on the inside that counts!'' and leave you unchanged. Then Compared to Who? is for you. It may not be grammatically correct, but it's one question every woman should ask as she wrestles issues like:

  • Am I enough?
  • Should I try to be more beautiful?
  • Will anyone ever love me as I am?
  • Would my life be different if I looked different?

Author Heather Creekmore has fought the body image battle and won. With lots of grace and laugh out loud humor, she's ready to help you do the same. Compared to Who includes chapter questions for individual or small group study to help you transform your body image and find new freedom and confidence to live out your God-given purpose.

The Burden of Better: How a Comparison-Free Life Leads to Joy, Peace, and Rest

Why is it so easy to compare yourself to others yet so difficult to stop? In an era of carefully curated social media images, nonstop selfies, and TV shows devoted to perfection, comparison can consume you. Chasing something better quickly becomes a burden, weighing down your soul and preventing you from experiencing the freedom, contentment, and rest that God generously offers.

With wit and honesty, drawing from her own struggles, Heather will encourage you to look in the mirror and see the many ways that you compare yourself with others. But more than that, she will show you the true joy of living a comparison-free life. While other books on comparison call readers to embrace their own uniqueness, The Burden of Better reveals that only a deep understanding of God's grace, and a personal reliance on that grace, can cure the epidemic of comparison flooding your mind. Heather's humor, personal stories, and empathetic approach offers a gospel-centered guide to kicking your comparison habit.
