Before and After

Decoupage Fixes Everything, Right?

Decoupage was around in the 70’s when I was a kid. I remember my mom and my aunts decoupaging napkins on plaques and wedding invitations on candles. Wrapping paper, greeting cards, pages from a magazine…you name it, they decoupaged it. Then, we didn’t hear about it as much for a long time. It’s back, but I think it’s often overlooked as a decorator’s solution to a quick makeover. With all of the fabulous scrapbook papers out there, there is a plethora of options for anyone who wants to transform an object. I recently completed this project for a gift. Joann […]

Transformation Tuesday – Sneak Peak

I SO wanted to be able to show you my finished transformation today, but alas, paint can’t be hurried. Ok. I had some other delays too. But, while I watch my chalkboard paint dry, here’s a sneak peak at the before and after transformation I’m working on.     Michelle Trash to Treasure Decorating View the full post at http://www.trashtotreasuredecorating.com

Transformation Tuesday – Even Functional Spaces Can Look Better

We live in an unusual house. Our “family room” is really an old church sanctuary. The house is basically a ranch house (the former parsonage) attached to an old country church. We use that sanctuary for storage, and a big game room for teenagers…this week it will be used to host a post-homecoming party for teens. A while back, my husband installed a wood stove so we could heat the 44 by 24 foot room without huge cost. We followed all of the necessary precautions to make it fireproof, but we went for function, not beauty. After all, the room […]

Transformation Tuesday – Garden Rake Turned Wall Hanging

I confess, I have an addiction to rake heads. I picked up my first one for $1 at a thrift sale and brought it home to see if I could come up with something to do with it. I hung it on the wall and put some dried flowers and a few garden tools on it. Later, I would add it to one of my window art creations. Then I bought another one at a yard sale. This time, I hung a mini quilt on it and used the top part for a picture easel. You’d think that was enough, […]

Before and After Vanity

Last week, Jessica sent me some before and after pictures of a writing desk that she made over into a vanity for her bedroom. She found it at a yard sale for $5 and purchased paint for $14. Then she spruced it up even more with new knobs from Anthropologie for $24. Her grand total was $43 and it fit perfect with her budget for a vanity. Thanks Jessica for the reader mail! I love your project. Now, the moment you’re all waiting for…the transformation. Before: And after: I love those knobs! They add a lot of character. Here they […]

Mary Kay Hutch Makeover

Today’s Transformation Tuesday makeover comes from a reader who is in a different type of makeover business; she does beauty makeovers. Shauna is a regular reader of the Trash to Treasure blog, and she sent me a link to photos of her project. She needed some sort of cabinet just for her Mary Kay business supplies, so she set out for her local thrift store hoping and praying she would find just the right thing. Wouldn’t you know it, she did find just the right thing and right in her price range. Of course it needed some trash to treasure […]
