Inspired Life

This week’s podcast guest comes to us all the way from Jamaica, and she is a millennial with a ton of ambition and a heart for ministry. I loved hearing about what God has been doing in her life. When we started off, Sarah told me about a couple of dishes that would be delicious to try if I were in Jamaica: Jerked chicken, akee and salt fish. Yum!

Millennials Can Burn Out Too!

I met Sarah through the Life, Repurposed book project. Sarah submitted a story that appears in the book. I was especially intrigued by her story as a 20-something-year-old and her perspective. She has taken her ambition for learning and turned it into a ministry, a podcast, YouTube channel and more.

Along the way, Sarah discovered that her body could only handle so much. After pushing herself too far, she wound up one night with a frightening experience that forced her to slow down and find balance. In this episode she talked about that experience some, but she tells the full story in the Life, Repurposed book.

“Your success is not dependent on your strength and your effort.” —Sarah Buckland

About Sarah:
Sarah Buckland is an award-winning, freelance Jamaican Christian writer with experience spanning technical and creative genres. She is an only child, preacher’s daughter and has been a Christian for over 19 years. Sarah is also a Spanish language enthusiast, nature-lover, and a doctoral student in Geography. Sarah’s drive for Christian advocacy has led her to produce her own ministry series (God’s GLOW web show) aimed at reaching youth with Bible. Over a dozen of Sarah’s articles have been published in Jamaica, Trinidad, and Guyana.

Life, Repurposed

Some of the things Sarah talked about in this episode:

  • Lessons in hardships (financial and health)
  • The importance of perseverance amid struggles to reach goals
  • The importance of balance in a busy life
  • Encouragement not to conform to the world amidst pressures (especially in the area of purity)

 Purity Ministry for Young Women

Sarah is especially committed to the ministry of purity in a culture where many young women struggle. She talked about how she provides support to other young women striving to live a pure life when they feel as if no one stands with them.

She also shared about how she has been committed to balance when life is full of opportunities to burn out. I love how she is transparent about how that is always a struggle and how she refocuses when she starts to get off track again.
